Vicki is the First Team Coach at Portreath with a strong background in fitness. She is currently working towards her FA Level 2 Coach award. Vicki used to run for Cornwall specialising in Heptathlon (hurdles, high jump, shot, 200m, long jump, javelin, 800m) and was ranked within the top 20 in the UK until dislocating her kneecap in 1999. Being unable to compete in sport Vicki decided to put her knowledge into coaching and set herself a goal of not only being the first female coach to coach a men's football team in Cornwall but to be the first female coach to get a junior club into senior football within 5 years.
Vicki started working with Portreath in the summer of 2004 and coaches the team on Thursday nights at RAF Portreath. Vicki is a highly motivated and organised individual and always expects maximum effort from the team.
After helping Portreath achieve Charter Standard in 2006 and securing Sportsmatch funding for the Reserves, Vicki was voted onto the committee as Club Development Officer.
In the 06/07 season the club not only won the Mining League but also won the Charter Standard Award for ‘Best Adult Club’ within Cornwall, and then went on to win the South West Regional Award as well!
Vicki’s day job is also sports focussed where she is the Marketing & Communications Officer for the Cornwall Sports Partnership (www.cornwallsportspartnership.co.uk). Her work focuses on increasing and sustaining participation in sport and works closely with the County FA and over 100 other sports.
She has a BA (Hons) degree in Broadcast Journalism and used to commentate and conduct interviews at Nottingham Forest’s home games for her University radio station (She supports Forest – but we don’t hold that against her!).
